Subtitle Synching So you have downloaded a .zip file for your movie, unzipped to get a .srt file, but sync mismatch makes subtitle viewing useless. You can keep looking, which can be time consuming, or use the file you have if it is complete, accurate, and re-synched for your video.There are many programs out there. The one I use is quick and easy, and will do a lot more as well. Getting Started: Make a "Subtitle" folder for your download. Download Subtitle Workshop "4 Beta 4" from here:http://www.urusoft.net/downloads.php Your downloaded file is sw4b4.zip. Select extract here.You should end up with this.

Make a shortcut on your desktop to the SubtitleWorkshop4.exe file.(Name it SW4.exe) This .exe file launches the program. It does not install. Your video and matching .srt file should be in it's own folder, and named the same eg.Folder:The Dead.2010 Files: The Dead.2010.mkv The Dead.2010.srt Launch SW4.exe from your shortcut. This will appear.

In upper left corner, Left-Click (LC) on "File" A smallpop-up appears.. New Subtitle Load Subtitle Save Save As etc. Select "Load Subtitle". Another larger pop-up appears:

rowse to the folder where your video and srt file are. Only the .srt file will be shown. Double LC on it. The srt file will be loaded into your Workshop Display. It will be as shown:

Now LC on Video. Select "Open" It should default to the last selected folder, and you can select your video file. Your video will start to play in the upper display area.

Your play button on the extreme left of the video control menu is also your pause button. On the extreme right of this video menu bar is a volume control, an elapsed time display, and the total movie length. The Elapsed Time is the one you will record to adjust your subtitles. What we are listening for is the first words or spoken sentence displayed on Line 1 of your subtitle file. In this case "1 00:03:26,000 00:03:28,000 Keep the pressure on." The number under the show column is the appear or show time for that subtitle, the Hide column is the disappear time. If that line is selected (hi-lited in blue), these times are shown below, as well as the subtitle display period.(2 seconds in this example). Be ready to pause the video when the first line is spoken. It can take several tries to catch the right moment. The play cursor that advances as the movie plays can be grabbed with your mouse and dragged to the general time for the first sentence. Once you feel you have an accurate start time, write down this value. On the right of the display, is a vertical scroll bar which can be used to advance to end of .srt file. The last line shown is "356 01:41:00,087 01:41:03,087 Timbu...it means hope." Advance the video cursor to near the end of the movie and locate the actual time of the audible start of the last subtitle. Write this down. On the top menu, beside File, LC on "Edit" Advance throgh it's menu path to Timings > Adjust > Adjust Subtitles The following is displayed.

Enter the actual elapsed times that the ending and starting sentence beginning was heard. Then click on "Adjust" Play back your video at the beginning and end to test the adjusted subtitles. Make further adjustments if needed. When all seems satisfactory, LC on "File" and select "Save" That should be it. Note:If video won't play: Open up video in your favorite player and record the times for start of 1st sentence and start time of last sentence. Enter these times, adjust and save.
